Características: planta anual, muy suculenta y finamente papilosa, con tallos largos postrados y cortos erectos. Hojas opuestas, sésiles, suculentas, cilíndricas, cuyo color va cambiando del verde al ocre o rosado. Flores solitarias en las axilas de las hojas, de 13-15 mm de Ø; con 3 tépalos exteriores más largos que los 2 tépalos interiores. Estaminodios petaloideos blancos. Los frutos son cápsulas con 5 lóculos.
Hábitat y localización: suelos pedregosos y arenosos, en zonas áridas. Originaria del noroeste de África. Presente en Fuerteventura: zona del faro de Jandía, sur del Barranco de La Torre y ensenada del Castillo.

Semillas muy finamente tuberculadas.
Usos: obtención de barrilla para elaborar jabón. Alimento, de sus semillas se laboraban tortas.
